US-China Investment Summit in 2016 hosted by Stanford University FARM (Financial and Risk Modeling Institute) and CPC was successfully held on August 24th in Santa Clara Convention Center, California. Stanford professors, venture capital firms including corporate VCs including Intel/Qualcomm/SAIC, startup community experts and more than 200 people all over the world from investment industry attended the summit.

 

More and more companies and institutions from China are interested in investing and leveraging technologies in US, meanwhile the US capitals are trying to figure out how to capture the opportunities in massive Chinese market. The US-China Investment Summit in 2016 provides a great platform for investment industry experts from US and China to communicate and share perspectives. In the forum of "Theme of China", Hans Tung, Managing Partner of GGV Capital, Yong Liu, Partner of WI Harper Group, Jonathan Qiu, Managing Director of Sky9 Capital, and Jake Yu, Partner of Peregrine Ventures, exchanged views on investment experience and opportunities in US and China.

 

Jake shared Peregrine Ventures investment experiences in both frontier technologies and disruptive new business models. As a venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley, Peregrine puts a lot of on efforts on extensive research in frontier technologies and startup companies by recruiting technology experts and advisors. It has invested in AR/VR, AI and  other frontier technologies, including Magic Leap. Peregrine also established partnership with other major venture capital firms in the valley and all over US. This provides a regular  communication mechanism on dynamics of technology development and exchange of high quality deal flows. Jake also mentioned more and more Chinese corporations are looking for the mechanism to increase or expand their business value by strategic equity investments in core technologies and products. Peregrine has practical experiences in this space by working closely with executive team of public companies. Yong and Jonathan also shared their perspectives. Regarding recent development of IPTV new media industry, Jake thinks this would be a very promising opportunity. The whole industry is growing very fast. IPTV users are expected to cross 100 million soon. Hans Tung also shared his perspective on IPTV business and investment opportunity.
