First National Bank (FNB) spent big money and time to get its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) off the ground.

 

Last year, FNB became the first South African bank to launch a mobile offering available to its customers. Since its launch, the service has attracted more than 200，000 customers, according to the bank. The service, which was first piloted to include prepaid, contract and top-up offerings, now allows FNB customers with a Connect SIM to access electronic banking platforms, such as online banking, the FNB app, cellphone banking and eWallet without incurring any data charges.

Telefonica Germany has announced new promotional offers for new Blau customers, available from 01 June to 31 July. During this period, the Blau L, Blau All-In and Blau All-in 1.8 will be up to EUR 7 per month cheaper. As a result, customers will save up to EUR 168 over the duration of the 24-month contract.

 

The Blau L package, with 450 units for calls and texts plus 450 MB data, will be offered for EUR 9.99 per month, instead of EUR 14.99 per month, with customers booking online paying only EUR 8.99 per month. The Blau All-in plan - with 600 MB data and calls/SMS flat-rate - is offered for EUR 14.99 per month (or EUR 12.99 per month if booked online), instead of EUR 19.99 per month. The Blau All-In 1.8 plan - with 1.8 GB data and phone/text flat-rate - is offered for EUR 19.99 per month (or EUR 17.99 per month if booked online), instead of the standard EUR 26.99 per month.

Aleksey Volin, the deputy minister at the Russian Federal Ministry of Communications and Mass media, and Lasha Shamba, the head of the Abkhasian Directorate of ITC, have signed a memorandum to reduce roaming rates between Russia and Abkhasia. The parties expressed their concern about the current level of roaming rates.

 

Regulatory bodies expect that operators will reduce both voice and data roaming rates, and that the reduction will lead to a decrease in service rates for end-users.
