Earlier this week, the FCC approved the three-way merger of Charter Communications, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks in a deal worth approximately $66 billion dollars. As part of the documentation associated with the deal, the FCC provided the market with some insight into the plans that the new Charter business may have, including the potential for enhancing their existing public Wi-Fi networks and possibly even launching their own MVNO business or Mobile Virtual Network Operator.

Recently, the European Commission was criticised for not using the opportunity provided by the Three and O2 merger to fix the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) space in the UK.

 

The regulator blocked Three’s takeover of O2, saying that it would increase prices while reducing choices for customers. If the merger had taken place, it would have resulted in just three major telephony companies in the UK. While the Phone Co-op appreciated the regulator’s decision to prevent the merger from occurring, it also felt that the watchdog did not seize the opportunity to make much-needed changes in the wholesale market.

Russian regional operator Vainakh Telecom, working in Chechnya republic, has introduced a promotion of a Mi-Fi router. 

 

The LTE device is offered for RUB 2,995 when connecting to any tariff from the operator and paying for the first month. Vainakh Telecom offers up to 60 Mbps over its LTE network, and the monthly subscription for LTE services varies from RUB 495 to RUB 995, depending on the size of the traffic bundle.
